Feb. 23, 2013

We miss the waterfalls in Baler, we have to go to Baler!  We miss watching the waves in Baler!  Actually, I wanted to go back surfing.  We were Baler, San Juan, Daet rats 8 to 9 years ago... if not that I almost died in San Juan, La Union with that deadly rip (rescued by other surfers and Red Cross team).... i decided to stop "trying" to surf.  I actually almost drowned in Baler those years too also with deadly rip.  Baler was really different those years, surfing was expensive that time.  We had to rent a long board for 500 pesos per hour just like in  San Juan / Bacnotan, La Union.  There was just Bays Inn (with surfer rate of 200 pesos per person per night), and fewer smaller lodges beside Bays Inn in Baler than time.  (In San Juan, La Union, we stayed at Mona Lisa.... cheapest with surfer rates of 200 pesos per person per night).  Those were the days of our lives.  When Jericho Rosales was just one of the surfers that time, now he is already a well known actor.  And Luke Landrigan usually texted us about surfing consortiums / gatherings.  And now, Luke is already a model.  Those years, no one sells surfing boards in metro manila (except for a place in Quezon City, i forgot the name of the place, board was made to order and expensive 40k pesos or so).  Or like go to Baler or San Juan and wait for a foreigner to sell their boards for cheap price.....those were the days.

We ate late breakfast in Bayler Hotel in Sabang while watching surfers.  Bayler is quite new. Well today, we go to Baler to unwind.  We wanted to go to Caunayan falls, but it was dangerous to cross the river going to Caunayan, the river current was really strong (heavy rains lately in Baler).  We cancelled Caunayan and opted to go to Diguisit.  There are 4 small waterfalls in Diguisit.  Those are good enough for us to enjoy.  We discovered that there is already a swimming pool in Diguisit, the water of the pool is actually from the waterfalls.  We paid 500 pesos for the cottage (entrance fee and payment for the swimming pool are included).  My son enjoyed swimming and playing with other kids for 2 hours in that pool.  Eric and I walked at Diguisit rock formations and then bathed in one of the waterfalls.  We then bathed at the sea (brackish water / estuary = mixture of sea water and fresh water from the waterfalls = the water is not very salty) and then rinsed at the waterfalls.  We went back to Bayler to eat again then went home.  We really enjoyed that day.
